I'm a mechanical engineer who is passionate about sharing what I've learned about cars and trucks. I worked for two automakers over a period of 16 years, and I spent a lot of my time off racing sport compact cars. I parlayed both of those into a career in automotive journalism for Edmunds.com (no relation, I swear!) Writing vehicle reviews helped me hone my ability to get my point across to anyone, and it also made me feel more comfortable in front of a camera. My specialty was always suspension testing and development, and so I'm especially curious about what manufacturers are doing in the hidden places we can't see but are oh so important. Trucks and off-road vehicles were my specialty when I worked at the Toyota Arizona Proving Ground, but I'm interested in all types of vehicles. You'll also catch me doing range tests of electric vehicles, trailer tow testing of trucks and SUV, and even the odd do-it-yourself explainer that can help you tackle maintenance and suspension upgrades.

there are pros and cons, for me the cons outweighed the pros, and essentially it seemed like bandage toyota came up with for rollover accidents. the KDSS has less clearance due to having the skid plate sit lower. cost of repair is insane for washboard roads or fast offroad driving both left or both right wheels with compress at the same time, like driving on a road, which will make the kdss stiffen up and put extremely ahrd hit into the cab. You just can't go wrong with the original design, especially if you know how to drive and what you're doing.
LC is combination of strength and luxury.
For all the advantages of KDSS, it's more complex and ultimately unnecessary. Adds weight and another mechanism to break. No thanks.
So glad i didnt spend 1700$ for this. It limits crawling articulation but perfect for speed bumps at the mall.
To all... make sure you get that gasket on the oil filter cover in the right place. Not saying you didn't, Dan, but it's easy to mess up. I won't say how I know this - let's just say I know. lol
Just like on Land Rovers, the rear goes up first to prevent headlights from aiming up during ascent.

I believe its industry standard, any height adjustable suspension the rear must raise before the front, and the front must lower before the rear. You can see this on the ford GT too, although its very quick.
I’d still go with the LX 570 with a different front bumper 🙌

Silly me put that body kit on my 2017 LX570. Glad I didn't lose too much clearance. I really liked that mesh grille and there's no way to get the mesh grille without the spoiling spoiler. Glad I still beat the Cyber Truck, guess I can safely cancel my order now.

I think the 2000s era Honda benefited from Shigeru Uehara's on all of its platforms and you can see it in the suspension geometry design.

I have a '18 TRD Off-Road with KDSS that failed at less than 47k kms. Lightly wheeled, 95% daily driven. For most people with KDSS, its great and never an issue. But for the odd person that has it fail on them they'll see a more than $5300 repair bill (checked with multiple toyota dealerships that dont normally have to work on them) for a $4000 factory option. It was difficult to justify the spend on this repair and I opted to tear it all out for a non kdss sway bar setup. Wish i never had it equipped. To each their own though.

I like the Safety First aspect of this video. Aways chock a wheel and ALWAYS use jack stands whenever you're working under a vehicle! BTW I use that water bottle funnel trick on long road trips when I need to add fluids... saves trunk space and no drips to clean up.
